2012 Washington - Fantastic Vintage
I wrote about this one last month but the price has actually come down!
2012 Charles & Charles, Cabernet/Syrah, Columbia Valley  $9.99 $8.50 per bottle by the case  "Tightly focused and precisely defined, with dark berry, chocolate and rose petal flavors on a supple frame, lingering easily on the polished finish. Drink now through 2018."  90pts Wine Spectator

2012 l'Ecole No 41, Columbia Valley Red  $18.99  Seven different grapes go into this wine, primarily Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah.

2012 Sparkman, "Kindred" Red, Columbia Valley $23.49   Two Thirds Cabernet and sourced from their younger vines.   The Kindred is as plush as Washington reds get.

2012 Airfield Estates, "Dauntless" Red, Yakima  $14.99   This one's Merlot based and like many Yakima Merlots, it's bigger than most of their Cabernets.   Powerful and structured

2012 Kiona, Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington  $19.99  Labeled Washington due to a legal glitch, this wine comes from Kiona's estate vineyards on Red Mountain.   Ripe blackberry, blueberry and black plum flavors engulf the tannins.   It's seductive now but will cellar well also.

Not 2012, but.....
2011 Angel Vine, Zinfandel, Columbia Valley  $17.99
2011 Angel Vine, "The Hellion", Columbia Valley   $21.99

This unusual producer specializes in Zinfandel from Washington at their Oregon winery.   The straight Zin is medium bodied with crunchy, fresh zin-berry fruit.   The Hellion is a fuller bodied blend of Zin, Primitivo and Petite Sirah.

2013 Commanderie de la Bargemone, Aix en Provence Rose  $16.99
2013 Domaine du Salvard, Cheverny Rose (Cabernet Franc) $14.99

2012 Emmolo, Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley $21.99  There used to be a Caymus Sauvignon Blanc but they lost their vinyards (divorce wreaks havok on wineries) years ago.   Now, it's back!   Less oaky then the old Caymus was, and delicious.

2012 Burgans, Albarino, Spain  $16.99  "Smoky peach and pear aromas are brightened by dusty minerals and lemon zest.  Deep, expressive tangerine, nectarine and poached pear flavors are nicely lifted by white pepper.   Distinctly rich for the region but lively as well." 91pts International Wine Cellar

2012 Sassi, Pinot Grigio delle Venezie  $10.99   Nationally imported but the label was designed by one of our friends in the Boise wine community.   Light, dry and fresh, the lively flavors match the fun label.

2012 Ca da Meo, Gavi  $12.99 "This white is well put together, offering apple, grapefruit, bread dough and white pepper flavors, with a fine spine of acidity and crisp texture. Long and harmonious. Drink now through 2014. 600 cases made." 89pts Wine Spectator

2012 Ryan Patrick, Chardonnay "Naked", Columbia Valley  $9.99 "Fresh and zingy, with pretty pear and citrus flavors that linger deftly. Drink now through 2015." 87pts Wine Spectator

2013 Fernlands, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, $10.99   It's new to the US and has no reviews yet but it's a classic crisp grapefruity kiwi Sauvignon for a great price.

2013 Riebeek, Chardonnay, South Africa  $10.99  "The 2013 Chardonnay is more reminiscent of a New Zealand Chardonnay than most from South Africa. Its offers a combination of lemon/lime notes intermixed with hints of honey and white peaches, medium body and an unoaked style. Enjoy it over the next year. "  Wine Advocate

Odds and Ends Reds
2010 Sur de los Andes, "Premium Blend", Mendoza $13.99  "Intense mineral and berry aromas show class and touhes of mind and wood.  This feels crisp electric and drawing, while flavors of graphite, mint, oak, vanilla, plum and raspberry run onto a lightly herbal, medium-length finish."  91pts Wine Enthusiast

2011 Leo, Malbec "Premium", Mendoza  $18.99 The next step up from the popular Leo Malbec we've been selling.   This one sees oak aging while the regular Leo is strictly stainless steel fermented.   The winery gives proceeds to Leo Messi's world children's charity.

2012 Espelt, Garnacha "Old Vine", Emporda  $10.99   "Made from 100% Grenache planted in decomposed granitic soils, and aged four months in new and used French oak, this deep ruby/purple-colored 2012 Garnacha Old Vines demonstrates what high quality can be found in obscure Spanish appellations. Aromas of kirsch, lavender and strawberries emerge from this medium-bodied, dense, rich 2012. Enjoy this delicious Spanish red wine over the next 3-4 years. "  90pts Wine Advocate

2007, Koyle, Syrah "Royale", Chile  $21.49  "The 2007 Royale Syrah spent 18 months in French oak. It is deep purple in color with a nose of cigar box, Asian spices, menthol, blueberry, and blackberry. Layered on the palate, with succulent flavors, good balance, and a lengthy, pure finish, this first-class effort will provide pleasure through 2019."  91pts Wine Advocate

2011 Sextant, Zinfandel "Wheelhouse", Paso Robles $19.99   Sextant is a relatively new winery from a family of grape growers who decided to cut out the middleman and produce their own wines.   I was impressed with this Zin that leans toward the classic, peppery style.

2010 Pesquera, Crianza, Ribera del Duero, Spain  $29.99  "The 2010 Tinto Pesquera Crianza is raised for 18 months in 90% American and 10% French oak. It is bestowed with a ripe bouquet of dark plum, cassis and dried violets that is well defined and becomes more generous with each swirl of the glass. The palate is succulent on the clean, pure entry. There is good weight in the mouth with layers of cassis and blackberry fruit, although the finish would benefit from greater tension and there is slight instance of brettanomyces. Still, this does not disturb what is a very agreeable Crianza. Drink now-2017."  92pts Wine Advocate

2011 Avignonesi, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano  $27.99 "
An opulent style, featuring black cherry, plum, earth and spice flavors. Full and complex, with fine balance and a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and spice."  91pts Wine Spectator and the exact same score and price as the 2010 that was in their year-end top 100.

2012 Chateau Pegau, Cotes du Rhone Red $21.99
"Looking at the reds and a tank-aged blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault, the 2012 Chateau Pegau Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Maclura (which is a type of Osage orange tree that’s widely planted on the estate) is a big, structured effort that exudes black fruits, mineral, pepper and underbrush. Still not in bottle, it is inky colored, with a big mid-palate, ripe tannin and serious richness. Drink 2015-2022."  89-91pts Wine Advocate

Collector's Corner
2010 Dunn, Cabernet Sauvignon "Howell Mountain", Napa $89.99  No reviews yet but this wine has a fantastic track record, 94-98pts in the Wine Advocate since the 2003 vintage.   It's known as one the few California Cabernets that absolutely requires cellaring.... and 2010 is a vintage built for the cellar.   This is the perfect wine for anyone who wants to celebrate 2010 as a special year in the decades (!) to come.

Lots and lots of Odds and Ends
I couldn't find a good them for these wines.... but lots of great selections

NV Eye Chart, Red, California $15.99  This new wine is a collaboration from Joel Gott and Dave Phinney (of Prisoner fame).    This red blend doesn't have a vintage, they don't tell us the grapes and there's nowhere on the bottle I can even tell it's from California.    It could be Martian Pinot Noir for all I know.   That said, it's very much the product of these two winemakers.... lush, soft and berryish.

NV Regio, "Dark Wine", Lodi  $8.99 It is a multi-vintage blend of 38% Petit Verdot, 26% Cabernet Franc and 36% Petite Sirah. This unusual blend and earns its name as “Dark Wine” on many levels. The Petit Verdot grape is very dark skinned and adds to the wines hue and lends a supple tannin to the wine. Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah add dark fruit characters to the wine like blackberries and black currants. The wine is rich and earthy with scents of tobacco and leather. It is full bodied but with a smooth velvety texture and fine grained tannins that makes the wine approachable and well rounded.

2008 Vina Eguia, Rioja Crianza  $9.99   Last Call... almost out of this vintage  "The 2008 Vina Eguia Crianza is aged in American oak for 12 months. The nose demands coaxing from the glass, but it eventually offers a crisp, natural bouquet of dark berries, burnt toast and singed leather. The palate is very well-balanced, with lithe tannins that caress the mouth. The oak is seamlessly integrated towards the lingering, supple finish. This is a very well-crafted, natural Rioja."  91pts Wine Advocate

2007, Koyle, Syrah "Royale", Chile  $21.49  "The 2007 Royale Syrah spent 18 months in French oak. It is deep purple in color with a nose of cigar box, Asian spices, menthol, blueberry, and blackberry.
